Centaurs Touch Academy Term 2 Review

image1Although newly-formed and with some younger players new to Touch, the valiant Vikings finished 6th of 10 teams in the TAS Combined Category D league, a result worthy of great applause. We look forward to the new TAS league starting on 19th August.

The Vikings now have their regular professional coaching team of Audrey Kok and Ethan Villiers who between them have gelled a great bunch of young girls and boys. They have also arranged some useful and fun Friendlies against much older players, teams from Polytechnics and Junior Colleges and have acquitted themselves well by winning all their matches. A great start to the year and much promise for the future.

The Warhorses and Family Guys had another strong season. The Family Guys made up mainly of parent/child combos were the TAS Combined Category D League winners with Warhorses finishing 3rd. These squads have no formal training but meet every Sunday afternoon from 5 to 7pm on the Centaurs Grass Pitch. Everyone is welcome to join and registering with the squad gets you signed up to play for one of the teams in the TAS Leagues.

This August marks the end of an era as Don Wood, the long-standing and much loved and respected Warhorses and Family Guys Co-ordinator, leaves us for the cooler climes of England, far away from his original home in New Zealand. Don led from the front, rarely missed a Sunday afternoon training run and made most of the Saturday matches. His regular presence, commitment and organisational skills will be sorely missed. I am forever grateful for you and your family’s time with and support for Centaurs Touch and Rugby. Enjoy the next many years in my home land.

Wishing all a very enjoyable long break, revived for the new league season.

Tim Lambert
