Why I became a coach:
Initially, to help out with the 1st XV at my local club but I really enjoyed it and the challenge of trying to improve players and a team over time. When my son got interested in rugby it became more about how to coach children the right things in a fun way that will keep them playing until their bodies fall apart in middle age like mine.

Coaching approach:
I want rugby to be fun whether playing or training. Since winning adds to the fun, I try to encourage the kids to play to the best they can. I know we’ve done a good job when players leave Centaurs and keep playing the game wherever they move on to.

Loves most about coaching:
Saturday’s a Rugby Day!!! For the U6s it’s all about making sure the kids have fun, getting parents involved and building the rugby family/community. We try to teach the kids the basic building blocks of rugby – catching, passing, running forwards (they didn’t tell me how difficult that would be when I signed up!). As well as the basic skills, we also try to teach them the core values of rugby – integrity, respect, solidarity, passion and discipline, Some big words in there for the U6s…but they are getting there…!
