Stories of past players
Alex Herriot, Narberth Rugby U19s, Pensilvania:
Alex has been playing a high level of rugby over the past years in Singapore and came to us this year. Don't let his quiet and reserved nature fool you as he is a force to be reckoned with on the field.
In Alex's match v. Blackthorn he provided 70 minutes of excitement with his solid tackling, positional play, maintaining and stealing ball, and leadership. Alex shut down every ball coming out of the scrum as he targeted the oppositions fly-half and #8.
Connie Denis, Bedok Kings & Singapore National Team:
Connie Denis joined Centaurs U12s in April 2005.
In 2009 he was an integral member of the Centaurs U16s team that won their age group Cup at the Centaurs International Mini & Youth Rugby Tournament and in 2010 captained the Centaurs U18s to another Cup victory at the same event.
Now at the ripe old age of 17 and still studying for his IB at OFS, Connie has been playing regular 1st team rugby for Bedok Kings in Singapore as well as training with the Singapore National side in preparation for the 2011 HSBC A5N which will commence in June.
Connie recently returned from a week’s specialist training at the International Rugby Academy in New Zealand. This course has seen many famous All Blacks come through its doors over the past 15 or so years. Not only did Connie, playing at fly-half (‘10’) captain the team but was also picked out for special mention by Murray Mexted (ex-All Black and a Course Facilitator).
We wish Connie all the very best of luck with his rugby career, whilst getting his IB and degree tucked away.
Jamie Tong - Marlborough College, UK:
Jamie is now playing first team rugby (U14s) with Marlborough College in the UK.
On a recent visit back to Singapore he had a run out with his old mates and it was noted that Jamie has sped up and even managed to develop a side step!
Well done to Jamie - we look forward to seeing you back in Centaurs colours on your next vist.
Eden Black - British School in the Netherlands:
Since moving to the British School in the Netherlands (BSN) in April 2010 Eden has been playing hooker with the BSN Cubs. The team have had a stunning 2011 season culminating with winning the Dutch National Cubs Championship!
Who are we? the Best rugby Squad in the Netherlands!
Well done to Eden - no longer a cub but a lion!!
Josh Williams - Chinnor Rugby Club, Oxfordshire, England, UK:
Josh Williams, having left Singapore, is now playing with Chinnor Rugby Club. He clings to his days in SIngapore, insisting on wearing his Centaurs t-shirt under his new kit as his luck charm. Go Josh!!
Nick Bromley - Millfield School, Junior Colts A, England, UK:
Our congratulations go to Nick, who has just been selected for the Junior Colts A team (U15s) at his new school.
Millfield School is one of the top rugby schools in the UK having produced the likes of Gareth Edwards, JPR Williams, Ollie Morgan, Matt Perry, Anthony Allen and Chris Robshaw.
Scott Kyle - Ontario, Canada:
A picture of Scott after he was presented with the No 9 jersey for Ontario U18. The jersey was given to him by Glen tarver, Director of Youth Development, Rugby Ontario after his selection into the U18 provincial squad. Scott actually ended up playing at No 15 for Ontario at the National Championships in Ottawa, August 2008.
Jeremy Williams - Geelong Grammer, Melbourne:
Ex-Centaurs U16, Jeremy Williams was last seen pulling on the colours of Geelong Grammer School in Melbourne, Australia. Congratulations Jeremy! See you when you are back in Singapore.
Victor Pringalle - Agen, France:
Victor moved to Agen in France at the end of 2006. He is currently playing for the Agen Cadets and is rubbing shoulders with the likes of Rupeni Caucaunibuca and Kees Meeuws - "I'm doing great in rugby in my new club and we are starting France Championship next week so we are quite well prepared. They make me play fly half or scrum half or even center. Our group of boys counts about 30 players but only 22 can be chosen to play during the game so we must give a good impression. Well thats it for now and i'll give you news when i have some."
Ben McGuire - Abingdon & Oxfordshire, England:
Just wanted to let you know that Ben had a good 3 day Martin Johnson rugby course at Richmond over the summer and has had a great first 10 days of rugby at Abingdon and is in the U14A starting line up for the first game of the season this Saturday. He is very enthused by the weather, more energy, and 4 sessions a week of rugby. Coaches at both seem to think he has got a good grounding which he wouldn't have had without Centaurs. So credit where credit due. Thought you'd be pleased To hear. See you in HK in 07. Keith."
Ben got asked along to a trial for the Oxfordshire County U14 squad with about 80 or 90 boys and after a couple of hours of skills assessment got into the squad of 40 boys for regular county training this term. Somewhere he certainly wouldn't have been without Centaurs. So much for my Sunday morning lie in!
Good luck to Ben with School and County.
Cam Wilson - New Zealand:
Cam.W. here. Here are some pics of me in my new rugby uniform for your Centaurs old boys page.
Rugby training starts soon for me and i'm going to try out for the seconds at school. I'm really looking forward to the rugby season.
How are the boys at centaurs? Say Hi from me.
