U17s player Adam Coppel (front row, third from right) responded to a call for testimonials from our oldest age group here at Centaurs Rugby. We were bowled over by his heartfelt and mature response, and are pleased to share this with you.
Centaurs is an amazing and extremely rewarding club. The experiences I have from Centaurs are unparalleled; it has a perfect mix of rugby and family, always providing the best coaching.
Centaurs is by far the highlight of my every week.
I spend Monday to Friday at school waiting for Saturday and waiting for rugby training where I get to see all my friends and I have the opportunity to improve my rugby. Centaurs focuses on respect and achievement, and this is truly embodied through the way we train and play. Our Coaches are always willing to help any player improve, and collectively, they have centuries of rugby experience and knowledge. The Coaches ensure that every training we are having fun and still finding a way to get better at the same time. As a playing group we always feel supported and like we are believed in.
I arrived new to the Club at the beginning of 2016, and within one training I already felt like I was a part of the team. I made close friendships that I still have right now, and am certain will continue in the future.
As Captain of the U17s I get a great insight into the brotherhood and camaraderie that my fellow teammates embody – it is noticeable from a mile away! The people at Centaurs truly look out for each other with care and always try to get the best out of each other. Watching the players and the parents interact with each other is mesmerising, always inclusive and having a good laugh. Never before have I felt so much apart of a community and a family.
My most memorable moment at the club was the second day of our own Centaurs Rugby 10s Tournament (CIMYRT) in 2016.
Successfully making it through the pool stages, we arrived ready for a tough semi final against KL Tigers. The contest was extremely hard fought before being tied up 12-12 at the end of the game. We headed to extra time with our heads held high and a mission to win. Unfortunately with only two minutes to go, KL Tigers intercepted and ran back for a try. Knowing we did not want to go down like this, we showed defiant effort to score an unlikely try and conversion as time expired. Having lost two players to injuries we headed to the Finals where we again won in extra time. I think we were able to win because of the resilience and pride the Club and Coaches had instilled in us.
Centaurs is a Club for anyone of any skill level and any nationality.
We have players in our team who have never played rugby before and people who have been playing since they could walk. We are all welcoming and willing to help in whatever way we can. We are also a very diverse club, in our U17s team we have players who are French, Brazilian, Spanish, Australian, English, South African, American, Russian, Singaporean and Malaysian. We pride ourself on the variety of nationalities we exhibit and the experiences we share as a team.
