CIMYRT 2019 Wrap

“And just like that, the curtain falls on the 12th edition of the Centaurs International Mini and Youth Rugby Tournament (CIMYRT). This year the tournament continued to grow from strength to strength with 158 teams from 23 clubs across Asia and Australia convening on Centaurs Sports Park for two days of fantastic rugby.

Come the final whistle on Sunday evening, Centaurs teams had made an incredible 8 Cup, 7 Plate and 5 Bowl Finals. Nine of those teams went on to be eventual winners, including the mighty U5s. All around, a very successful weekend for the club.

Results aside, it is important to acknowledge that the true success for a tournament is judged by the enjoyment of the players, coaches and spectators, of which there was an abundance.

It was heart-warming to see players exchanging jerseys, coaches sharing a beer (or four) as well as teams sharing players to help cover injuries. This was demonstrated wonderfully by Tanglin Rugby Club who adopted a lone U15 player named Colin, who had travelled to watch his younger brother’s team. Tanglin went on to win the U15 Plate with Colin nominated to receive the trophy as captain – the true spirit of rugby lives on!

This is down to the incredible effort put in by coaches and parents who tirelessly volunteer their time to ensure the players continue to enjoy playing this wonderful game.

A special mention must go the incredible volunteers and referees who ensured the tournament ran to schedule and of course, the parents and coaches who give up their weekends to allow their children to experience such wonderful tournaments.

We would also like to extend our many thanks to the sponsors and partners – Space Executive, Linklaters, iSwitch, Expat Dental, City Osteo & Physio – as well as those in the vendor tent: Magic Academy & Sudamerica Coaching, Simply Active (we have a members’ discount for them!), Boost Juice, Two Men Bagel House, The Shack, Lai Thai Cuisine, Atas Coffee, and ClubCo’s bars.

Thanks to the medics and City physios for helping with injuries and niggles.

For those of you struggling with post-CIMYRT withdrawal, next year’s dates for the 13th edition of CIMYRT have already been confirmed: November 28th and 29th 2020. We look forward to welcoming you back.”
