Whilst girls contact rugby in Singapore continues to grow, events such as our Girls Open Day are essential for raising the sport’s profile to more and more girls.
Saturday 31 August saw 12 girls signing up to Centaurs – 8 of which had never played or heard of rugby before! – which was a great success from our perspective. The girls had a great time learning the basics under the guidance of coaches Anna Chen and Elly Syazwani, both of whom have represented Singapore in Women’s Rugby.
This was a great opportunity for us to ease new players into a sport that can seem quite scary to a newcomer! Paring rugby for girls back to the fundamentals gave us a chance to show them it’s not all about big hits and tackles, and that you can come into the sport later than you might expect with the right skills, coaching and experience.
Thanks also goes to the PwC Singapore staff and daughters who joined us as part of their gender initiative to promote equality through sports.
