JRCS League 2018

Written by Nick Dance, Director of Rugby.

“What a fantastic day last Saturday was, at Tanglin Rugby Club, for the Junior Rugby Club Singapore Grand Finals 2018.

As Director of Rugby I would like to congratulate all teams (players, coaches and parents) that took part and were involved in this year’s JRCS competition.

The coaches have worked tirelessly to ensure the boys are best prepared and managed for the league, and the results overall showed how strong Centaurs is as a group. Here’s how the age groups went in their Finals.

U10As v SCCA (22-10) – Cup Winners
They didn’t have it all their own way, but a great start to the day with the U10s taking the Cup in their first season in JRCS. More to come we hope.

U10B v Saints (62-0)
The scoreline says it all here – great result and congrats to the boys for the win.

U11A v TRC (34-5) – Cup Winners
Another top result – the U11s have only let in 1 try all season – and that was in the final. Great job and a great finish to the JRCS league for the age group. 385 points for, and only 5 against.

U11Bs v Titans (29-20) – Bowl Winners
After trailing at the start, our U11 Bs bounced back to power over Titans, who were resilient in attack, in this closely fought game.

U12s v Spartans
The boys unfortunately came unstuck against a bigger and more physical team from Spartans – but still held their heads up high to the final whistle.

U13s v TRC (38-29) – Cup Winners
Fantastic game by our U13s. It was to and fro with the tries – and at one stage TRC were up by nearly 20 points before the boys came back in style to take the Cup. Great stuff and an exciting match.

U14s v Titans (65-5) – Bowl Winners
Great to see our U14s win some silverware with a dominant display against Titans. It has been a tough campaign for the U14s – but all worth it with this victory.

U15s v TRC (51-12) – Cup Winners
It was a very even game to begin with, but then Centaurs started to play to their strength with the forwards size being the main advantage – 3 tries from a driving maul set the standard and in the end it became a free-flow scoring affair.

U17s v TRC (32-17) – Cup Winners
What a game to finish off the finals – played with pace and heart – again TRC scored first, but then it was one way traffic with Centaurs dominating the majority of the game. TRC scored last play to put a bit of respectability on the score, but it was much too late. Great game by our U17s boys to retain the Cup. Good to see many Old Centaurians going down to watch too.

The Head Coaches must be thanked – it is a tireless and thankless task – sorting out the administration, planning the weekly sessions, and managing non-availabilities. However, I think they will all agree, seeing the boys and girls playing rugby in the finals of any league and the smile on the boys faces, whether they win or lose, is all worth it.

Finally, thanks to the team in the office, who do the backend of the day to day grind – awesome job.”

And a note from our President…

Written by Robbo, Club President.

“So we conclude another successful season of the JRCS tournament. Whilst it is always pleasing to see the Club do well during the finals it has been more pleasing this year in watching and hearing of the small successes during the pool rounds across each of the age groups. It is a tribute to all the coaches and parents that regardless of results team and players back up at training on Saturdays, extra sessions put on for players, those not selected still turning out to cheer their age group and at the end of it keep giving it another go to improve and another game of footy.  So for all those who participated this year congratulations on your efforts, to those who won silverware well done and to all those in the background who give up their time and effort to provide an opportunity for competitive rugby a massive thank you.”

and the Founder/CEO…

Written by Tim Lambert, Centaurs Group Founder & CEO.

“And in addition to the praise adorned the players, coaches and parents, we all heartily thank Nick Dance, Centaurs Director of Rugby, for his tireless efforts overseeing and managing all our rugby activities; Magdalene Ng without whom our Registration and intra-club communications would go awry; Charli Bromley for so positively engaging regularly with our current, past and future communities; and Di Hutchinson for ensuring our tours and other club activities are enjoyed by all as she keeps the behind the scenes organisational antics away from the frontline.”
