In recent weeks, we’ve run some specialist rugby skills sessions for our U12 – U17s.
Forwards skills for rugby with Andrew “Skip” Skipper
Current Forwards coach – Bedok Kings RFC; former Senior Head Coach at South Queensland and Darling Downs; Coach Mentor with RFU
This workshop was for our U12-U17 forwards. Skip worked with our rugby girls and boys primarily on body positioning and core strength in the scrum, as well as lineout stability and accuracy of lineout throws. Breaking down the game into its elements and focusing in on mechanical movements, the players benefited from learning small adjustments that will have big impact in a game scenario.
Players were encouraged to critique and correct one another’s technique, which proved to be great opportunity for the kids to work together to problem solve.
Backs skills with Lance de Kock
Current coach – Wanderers RFC
Our U12-17 half backs received some one-on-one coaching with Lance de Kock. With pro-coach Johnny (head coach of Bucks RFC), the players worked on the details of passing accurately and powerfully from scrums and rucks. They also focused on attacking and clearing kicks including box kicks, and kicking from hand.
Our outside backs received some one-on-one coaching of try scoring and finishing techniques with our pro-coaches Adam Field (former Wales 7s player) & Sam Lau (current Singapore player).
Defensive workshop with Dan Geurs
Bedok Kings RFC Head Coach, current Defence Coach for Singapore Rugby, former defensive coach for Shute Shield winners Warringah Rats
Dan helped our U15 and U17 rugby players with defensive patterns and how to defend tightly in a ruck. He helped those with specific position aspirations to work on specific skills to improve their role on the field in defence.
