Centaurs Rugby: End of Year Message ’23

Our end of year note celebrating the successes of our kids rugby teams in Singapore for 2023.

It’s our tradition for our Director of Rugby to send out an end of year message to our rugby members at the end of Term 4, and I am honoured to be sending my first this year to everyone as the Club’s DoR.

2023 for rugby has been a year full of “new” – a new home, new director of rugby, new sponsors and partners, and even a new tour to Marlborough College Malaysia!

Throughout the year of newness, we’ve seen the Centaurs Rugby spirit continue and thrive. The excitement and passion we see from the community to play and coach rugby, and create and participate in Centaurs events has been inspiring and we’re excited to carry this momentum into 2024.

Looking back on 2023

We’ve achieved a lot this year! We’ve participated in the KL10s, JRCS league, Ruck & Rumble, TRC Cups, SCC 7s, Marlborough College Malaysia’s Straits 10s, JRCS mini festivals and the JRCS Festival of Nations.

We swapped kit for our country shirts on the Rugby World Cup weekend and played in Christmassy things last weekend. We welcomed guest coaches in the form of Archie Griffin (Bath Rugby) in June and trained with Sevens legends Tendai “The Beast” Mtawarira, Nate Hirayama, Shiray Kaka & Ayesha Leti back in April. We went to the Singapore 7s, hosted BBQs, Touch socials and our Farewell Turf City picnic in October.

Our Girls programme continues to grow under Keri Glenday. With more playing opportunities this year, the girls in yellow and blue are quickly becoming spectator favourites at tournaments around Singapore.

Next year we’re aiming for our first international tour (Bangkok 10s in February), and hope to continue welcoming trialists and introducing more girls to the sport of rugby!

Throughout, we’ve seen Centaurs Rugby show strength and prowess in all game formats. We’ve witnessed tremendous progress, grit, and sportsmanship, upholding the values of rugby from our U5s to U17s. We are so proud of our rugby community and excited of what is to come in 2024.

My “Thank-you”s

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank our head-coaches and team managers for their passion and dedication in leading Centaurs Rugby at the age group level. I’d also like to extend a special thanks to the parent coaches who volunteer their Sundays in the Coach shirt, giving up their time and energy in the name of kids sport.

Last but not least, we would like to thank all parents for trusting Centaurs to nurture, coach and enable your child to grow and develop in a safe and inclusive environment. In 2024, we look forward to grow to new heights, further our success and most importantly keep the Centaurs fire burning bright!

Term 1 starts again on Sunday 14th January, but we’ll be in touch again before then with dates for your calendars and social events. Wishing you a fantastic break and a wonderful year end.”

Muhammad Amir
Centaurs Director of Rugby
